In 1998 I left school to join a band called TVB, I had grown up in a town called Chesham, (top left of the London Underground) and until then had never been away from home. TVB, was and still is a band that are part of a Christian charity called Youth for Christ. They aim to take the news of the Jesus Christ to every young person in Britian in a relevant and accessible way. In TVB’s case this was through music. I had auditioned for the position of lead vocal in June of that year and was accepted to join the band in September and stay with them until July 1999. It was an awesome year, every week we were in a different town going into local schools and doing gigs. I learnt a lot about music, God and myself. We also had the privilege of touring in Germany for a month, which was a great time. It was amazing to meet so many people in such a busy year. 

A season with TVB fuelled my passion for music and performance. It was in that year that I started to learn guitar and started to write songs. When I think back to the first songs that I wrote I laugh to myself as they were so bad! To think that I actually sat people down to listen to them and they would graciously nod and smile back at me as with heavy hands I hacked and stuttered my way through a song that I really felt was the best tune ever written. I have learnt a lot. 

In the late summer of ‘99 life changed a lot, as I put musical dreams to one side to pursue another passion; teaching. This took me to Bedford of all places and De Montfort University to begin a four year education degree. It was something that I really struggled with at first feeling like I wasn’t where I wanted to be but that all changed when I started to get involved in the King’s Arms Church. Walking into that place felt like coming home.

After years of writing songs in my bedroom, content with them just bouncing back at me off the walls I felt challenged and inspired to start doing some performances again. So that’s what this is all about. The first steps towards embracing a passion for simply singing my songs to people.
